The forecast for Albuquerque called for a record breaking heat day - 100 degrees rather than our normal 87 degrees. At 6:45am I went into the backyard to turn the water on for the soaker hose on the bushes before taking the dogs for a walk. I had a couple of other outdoor jobs to do before it got too, hot. As I turned to walk inside I saw this scene. The sun had just come up over the Sandia mountains causing the tree and baby cholla cactus to cast shadows on the wall. I thought, "That's nice, now where are the dogs. Let's go for our walk."
I headed into the house and then turned back around to look again. God's nudging said, "Go get your camera. The dogs can wait (there are plenty of hot air balloons in the air for them to bark at). The chores can wait. This moment won't wait."
I went inside, got my camera and came back out to enjoy a peaceful, creative moment with my camera and my God. I had fun watching God's playfulness with the light and shadows. Even the little cactus was playing a big role in the scene.
As a sojourner on a spiritual path, I know God offers us opportunities to step off the path and enjoy moments of God's loving presence. We have to pay attention to be able to recognize those time. I savor these moments with God.
